Celia Leahu is a 58 year old Middle School teacher who had 2 hairline fractures on both tibiae of her legs. She walked into Hot Yoga Highland on May 6, 2014 & tried her 1st Bikram Yoga class. It only took 5 minutes for her to wonder what she had gotten herself into. After completing her class, she decided to finish out the month intro to see what would happen. 30 days later, Celia was hooked. She had tried other exercises such as Zumba, Pilates, and dance class, but she found the benefits from the Bikram series much more beneficial than everything else. Her breathing is much better, her skin has never been so healthy & full of vitality, needing less & less lotion, AND her muscles(according to her massage therapist) are doing better than with other forms of exercise. Celia is pictured her doing her current favorite posture: CAMEL. She says this posture reminds her of how far she has come in the series. A year ago, she could not kneel or put any pressure on her knees or the top of her legs. It took several weeks of practice, but then she could kneel again, and then the next step was dropping her head back in the posture. Celia still struggles in the balancing series of class, especially with Standing Head to Knee pose, but little by little, second by second, one day she will grab her foot, stretch out her leg, & put her forehead on her knee AND nail this posture!
Practicing Bikram Yoga has touched Carolyn Jackson in so many ways. Her sleeping has improved significantly. She use to wake up 2-3 times during the night, and not be able to fall back asleep easily, but not no more, Carolyn rarely wakes up during the night. Her eating habits have become more healthier, & her skin has really become more softer and smoother. Strength & flexibility has improved, and now her body is becoming toned. Carolyn has stated that she is relaxed, with more patience with everybody!
Julie Fisher has been practicing yoga for over 15 years, including pre- and postnatal yoga, and she started the Bikram series 18 months ago. At first, she was not sure if she could handle the heat/humidity, but now she loves it. She says the series is more challenging than any other yoga, and she loves how she feels afterwards. It has helped strengthen her core & improve the postures. Julie looks forward to Half Tortoise pose because of the deep stretching in the shoulders & back muscles. After learning from the instructors that this posture also helps with headaches, she has added this posture to her regular morning routine. This has significantly reduced the number of headaches & migraines that she usually would have. Julies favorite posture is Balancing Stick because she feels she has mastered this pose. She loves that the Hot Yoga Highland instructors teach about the health benefits of the different postures, giving her a better understanding of her practice.
